On İkinci Gece

Performed by the Kumpanya Ensemble, On İkinci Gece—one of Shakespeare’s most beloved comedies—brings to the stage themes of love, identity, desire and the human quest for self-discovery through an entertaining yet thought-provoking story.

The story, which begins with a shipwreck, revolves around missing siblings, stolen identities and declarations of love made to the wrong people. As the characters try to get to know one another, they also come face to face with themselves; the boundaries of love, desire and a sense of belonging become blurred.

Do we really love someone for who they are, or for what they represent? Is love an emotion, or an idea we chase after? Is it inevitable that we yearn for what lies beyond our reach? And to what extent does what we call ‘identity’ belong to us, and to what extent does it belong to the roles society has assigned to us?

Shakespeare poses these questions not through grand answers, but through misunderstandings, coincidences, disguises and plenty of humour. That is why On İkinci Gece, despite having been written centuries ago, tells a story that remains relevant to this day.

Created through the Kumpanya Ensemble’s collaborative creative process, this production invites the audience both to laugh and to reflect. The play is a production of the Kumpanya Performing Arts Acting Workshop and is performed by the Kumpanya Ensemble.
